Hina Ali is a Pakistani documentary editor and director based in Brooklyn. Her films explore identity, faith, and memory through the quiet power of individual stories, using the personal as an entry point into global questions. Through this lens, she reveals how one life can mirror the world, inviting audiences to confront the monumental through the intimate.
Her current projects include Salam Shalom: The Untold Story of a Jewish Family in Pakistan (2026) and An Imperfect Daughter. Her recent credits include the feature documentaries Paint Me a Road Out of Here (Film Forum, 2025) and Preconceived (SXSW, 2024).
Hina’s earlier editing and producing work includes the Emmy-nominated Among the Believers (Tribeca 2015, PBS), Unladylike2020: The Changemakers (PBS), and Insha’Allah Democracy (DOC NYC 2017, Amazon Prime). Her films have screened at more than fifty festivals worldwide, including IDFA, Sheffield DocFest, Human Rights Watch Film Festival, Sydney Film Festival, CPH:DOX, Documentary Edge, and Vancouver International Film Festival.
She has collaborated with PBS, BBC, Vice, Discovery+, Amazon Prime, Starz, Hulu, Cheddar, Magnolia Network, Dawn News, and Aaj News. Hina has served as a juror for the Emmys, IDA Awards, and Camden International Film Festival. She is a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow (2013–14) and a Chevening South Asia Journalism Fellow (2017).
